About The Event

Join us for the second session of the presentation series ‘Design Futures’ by Prof. Percy Adil Pithawala on Saturday, 22 April 2023 at 6.00 pm.

Design Futures is an outreach platform, an initiative undertaken by The Red Studio to broaden horizons and open up fresh discourses amongst academia, students, and professionals through a multi-disciplinary learning exposure from allied fields of Design. In the second session of the series, Prof. Percy Pithawala will talk about the works of Donald Judd and Bridget Riley.

Donald Judd was an American artist considered a leading international exponent of minimalism. Judd made an immense contribution to defining and articulating the very premise and meaning of the art of his time through a set of collected writings. He published his breakthrough essay “Specific Objects” (1964), in which he strongly advocated for the clarity and independence of the constructed object as a critical work of art devoid of any compositional hierarchies and feelings in a given space.

Bridget Riley is an English painter known for her singular Op Art Paintings. She came to prominence during the American Op Art movement of the 1960s after her inclusion in the 1965 exhibition “The Responsive Eye” at The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Her “Op Art” pieces produce a disorienting physical effect on the eye. Bursting with movement and energy and always remaining in the here and now, Riley’s paintings reveal their pleasures generously.
