Arthshila Ahmedabad’s Film Showcase this week features a series of short films that frame the profound journeys of three distinctive and influential individuals in the realm of diverse disciplines of photography, cinema and visual arts.
‘Raghu Rai: Hearing through the Eyes’ by Suvendu Chatterjee is a journey through the inner and outer world of the legendary Indian photographer, Raghu Rai. The film takes us through an intertwined passage of photographs, personal narratives and worldly views that combine in the process of the making of a Maestro and his life so far.
‘The Inner Eye’ by Satyajit Ray is a 1972 short documentary film made by Satyajit Ray on Benode Behari Mukherjee, a blind artist and a teacher from Visva-Bharati University, a university founded by Rabindranath Tagore at Santiniketan. The documentary covers his journey from childhood till his blindness along with much of his works and features his words, ‘Blindness is a new feeling, a new experience, a new state of being’.
‘Phalke’s Children’ by Kamal Swaroop is a film on Dada Saheb Phalke, the father of Indian film industry. The film traces his life & career through the reminiscence of his children, family photographs and his films.
