About The Event

Archana Shah has been collaborating with artisans around the country for the last 40 years to create textiles for her clothing company BANDHEJ, a label influenced by traditional textiles and artisanal skills, offering a range of eco-friendly fashion. Over the years, through many initiatives and interactions, she has been able to revive several craft skills, thereby encouraging young artisans to earn a livelihood by pursuing their traditional vocation.

She designed costumes for theatre and a few feature films in the early 1980s. She planned the architectural textile installations at the Festival of India Inaugurations in Paris in 1985, Moscow, Leningrad, and Tashkent in 1987.

In 2013, Archana published her first book – Shifting Sands, Kutch: A Land in Transition, which recounts her journey over three decades with the land of Kutch, its people, and their crafts and has recently published – Crafting a Future: Stories of Indian Textiles and Sustainable Practices.

In this session, Archana Shah will speak on the value of Handcrafted Textiles in present times and Sustainable Practices.

Join us on Sunday, 29 May 2022 at 6.30 pm to know more about the artisans and their traditional wisdom.
