About The Event

Join us for the closing dialogue for the exhibition ‘Vandalizing the Indian Atelier’ with Sanghamitra Chatterjee and Vaissnavi Shukl this Sunday, 06 August 2023 at 6.30 pm.

In this discussion, we are looking forward to a critical review of the project, Women of Vaastukala to discuss the relevance of oral history recording as a way to account for all kinds of lost histories. In particular, the dialogue will focus on why it is important or not for knowledge production in the area of architecture and related practices of the built environment. How important is the voice of the maker, when we are interpreting the spatial evidence like drawings, photographs, and models? Are there more narratives that must be documented to build a robust historiography of architecture and design? What are the ways in which the processes of architectural archiving can inform cultural behaviour and the sociopolitical ramifications of our inhabitation? The discourse would also extend into looking closely at the first approach of disseminating an archival collection, and the need for public engagement in the form of an exhibition.

Sanghamitra is the Secretary of Oral History Association of India and has several years of experience in the field of business and corporate archiving. With a desire to explore other histories, and realizing the untapped potential of archiving in India, she founded Past Perfect Heritage Management in 2016.

Vaissnavi Shukl is an Architect, Educator and Podcast Host based out of Ahmedabad, India. She is the founder and host of the Graham Foundation-funded podcast Architecture Off-Centre, which highlights unconventional design practices and research projects that reflect various emerging discourses within the design discipline and beyond.

The Exhibition is on view only for the last few more days.
